Central Department Heads- Sept. 23rd 2008

- The Friends of the Library meeting will be Nov. 13th. Rick Bragg will be the guest speaker. You must be a memeber to attend.
-The NCCJ walk will be Nov. 9th in Linn Park.
-Oct. 16th is staff day
-Oct. 7th@6pm: Town Hall Meeting here at Central- VS will attend
-Oct. 1st: Joint Branch/Dept Heads Meeting here at Central. Also BPL Youth Services (which we are hosting) here.
-Oct. 28th: JCPLA Youth Services Roundtable, which we are hosting.

Department Heads Meeting- 08/27/2008

-Automation will be installing the laptops next week after Labor Day.
-The Library's Long Range Plan will be presented to the Board for approval next week.
-Supply Money has been rolled into one funding source (01). Please send requisitions to Sandi for approval.
-Next joint branch/dept. head meeting will be Oct. 1st.
-Food for fines starts next Tuesday. Remember no expired cans/food.
-The NCCJ wal will be Nov. 9th (later than usual).
-The Tuition reimbursement form has been re-formatted.
-Circulation desk has taken over managing the Southern History Circ Desk. Cynthia is now part of Circulation and they will be splitting duties. The SH Circ desk will be closed at 6pm on Mondays and Tuesdays (a security guard will still be stationed there).
- The other departments will be sharing duty watching the afternoon kids in the storycastle. A full schedule will be posted soon but we will watch them every other Tuesday.
-Administration wants to provide an Instant Messaging System for library questions during the week. The departmetns will share the duty- we will "man" the IM desk on Thursdays from 2pm till 4pm. The software will be installed on our computers and on the 4th floor. Basically it is like manning a phone line- we will have to look for queries. I dont expect it to be very busy.

Central Dept Heads- June 4th

  • Long range plan is being reviewed. If you have any ideas, go to the Intranet to post.
  • New full time employees get their merit raise at the end of one year not six months
  • IM (Instant messaging) has been discontinued for the summer
  • Four day works weeks will not apply to library employees
  • Security has been moved to City payroll. They will now be clocking in/out like everyone else...
  • For City Stages, the library will close at 5pm on Friday, and closed Saturday and Sunday. FT employees will need to work 8-5
  • Beyond the Budget requests are due August 4th. If you have any ideas- I am thinking of asking for a big screen tv...
  • Designated Brown bags programs can be considered training. Sandi and Linda are working on this...
  • Next BPL@Nite programs- Jun 19-Hip Hop singer/July 15- the Ugly Bug Ball (children oriented)/Aug 21- Act of Congress music group
  • Sandi wants us to make sure that our storycastle bathroom is kept clean...lets us try to lock it.

Central Dept Heads- May 7

Linda Wilson: LW is looking for staff interested in creating a "speakers bureau": a list of staff willing to go give speeches. The topic can be anything- library stuff, personal interest, pretty much anything. If you are interested- just contact her.

Sandi
  • There is no fund 01 money left (library store).
  • Mrs Sirmans retirement is Oct. 31st- she will be using her sick time before that so we won't see much of her after Aug.
  • If a city councilor asks you for something- contact Admin.
  • United Negro college Fund donation forms should be coming soon.
  • Stromberg- continue using blue time sheets in the near/far future. The Blues must match the Strom.
  • June 29th, Ben Peterson the new head of Southern will be here!

Department Heads Meeting- Feb. 27, 2008

  • All Non-exempt should still clock out for lunch (but not breaks).
  • Please let Norma know of any difficulties with the timeclock or EKiosk
  • Junior Achievement students will be visiting on March 11th. Some will pair up with staff for one hour to observe.
  • If you send in an Automation track-it, please also include your CSL's name (Mary) and yours name somewhere in the track-it.
  • Sandi is looking for volunteers to help input program evaluations- contact her.
  • If anyone is interested in baseball, Sandi is working on a grant to get an ALA exhibit that covers the Negro Leagues- contact Sandi.
  • The Langham Awards (Friends Group) will be March 8th.
  • During March, the Holocaust exhibit will be going on in the first floor.
  • ALLA- money is tight but still send in your convention registration forms. Please limit yourself to one special "food" program. Send in the registration forms to Sandi ASAP.
  • The library will be holding retirement seminars every fourth Thursday from 10 am till 2pm. Schedules should be coming out.

Department Heads Meeting Nov. 7, 2007

From ADCOU:
  • United Way forms are due Friday
  • Except for "city charities"-notification will be on the staff blog
  • There will be a staff breakfast for Inventory Day at Central. I have also talked to Haruyo about a 2nd floor lunch for that day
  • TEC Tuesday- will be done again in the spring with some repeats
  • If you have a patron trying to download a PDF from a library database and the computer will not allow him- write down the name of the database and the sub-domain name (ask Mary) and send to automation
  • CYPUBJ02, 03, and 04 will be replaced on th enext lease installment

Sandi will be off the week of Thanksgiving.
