Central Dept Heads- May 7

Linda Wilson: LW is looking for staff interested in creating a "speakers bureau": a list of staff willing to go give speeches. The topic can be anything- library stuff, personal interest, pretty much anything. If you are interested- just contact her.

Sandi
  • There is no fund 01 money left (library store).
  • Mrs Sirmans retirement is Oct. 31st- she will be using her sick time before that so we won't see much of her after Aug.
  • If a city councilor asks you for something- contact Admin.
  • United Negro college Fund donation forms should be coming soon.
  • Stromberg- continue using blue time sheets in the near/far future. The Blues must match the Strom.
  • June 29th, Ben Peterson the new head of Southern will be here!

Department Heads Meeting- Feb. 27, 2008

  • All Non-exempt should still clock out for lunch (but not breaks).
  • Please let Norma know of any difficulties with the timeclock or EKiosk
  • Junior Achievement students will be visiting on March 11th. Some will pair up with staff for one hour to observe.
  • If you send in an Automation track-it, please also include your CSL's name (Mary) and yours name somewhere in the track-it.
  • Sandi is looking for volunteers to help input program evaluations- contact her.
  • If anyone is interested in baseball, Sandi is working on a grant to get an ALA exhibit that covers the Negro Leagues- contact Sandi.
  • The Langham Awards (Friends Group) will be March 8th.
  • During March, the Holocaust exhibit will be going on in the first floor.
  • ALLA- money is tight but still send in your convention registration forms. Please limit yourself to one special "food" program. Send in the registration forms to Sandi ASAP.
  • The library will be holding retirement seminars every fourth Thursday from 10 am till 2pm. Schedules should be coming out.

Department Heads Meeting Nov. 7, 2007

From ADCOU:
  • United Way forms are due Friday
  • Except for "city charities"-notification will be on the staff blog
  • There will be a staff breakfast for Inventory Day at Central. I have also talked to Haruyo about a 2nd floor lunch for that day
  • TEC Tuesday- will be done again in the spring with some repeats
  • If you have a patron trying to download a PDF from a library database and the computer will not allow him- write down the name of the database and the sub-domain name (ask Mary) and send to automation
  • CYPUBJ02, 03, and 04 will be replaced on th enext lease installment

Sandi will be off the week of Thanksgiving.

Department Heads Meeting, October 24, 2007

From ADCOU
  • There will be a new statistical training session on Nov. 8th at 9:30am in the RLCC. Mary can you attend?
  • FYI- the spine labels for YA will change from "YA" to "TEEN"
  • The Birmingham Historical Society will be having a luncheon on Sunday Nov. 4th.
  • The United Way kickoff has kicked off- we should be getting some more information soon.
  • Alabama Bound Committee will be meeting Oct. 29th @ 9:30am- contact Linda if you wan to be on the committee.
  • There is a page wiki- ask Cheryl for details.
  • Contact Tobin if there is a database problem (not Debbie or Elizabeth).
  • Sandi will be taping at BrightHouse on Nov. 5th- I will probably be there to tape a part of my Tech Tuesday presentation and/or seasons reading.

Departments

  • InforCirc: Karyn and her staff want tours of each department. She will contact us when she wants to set one up in Youth. She is also training her staff to look/use the library blogs. Take a look at the BPL Staff Blog- it has usefull information.
  • BST- Karen created a Small Business Resource Page that is very good.

Department Heads Meeting, Oct 10, 2007

  • Pam will attend some of the dept. heads meetings (like today).
  • SH is short staffed this week, they might need help.

ADCOU

  • Ben Franklin will visit Dec. 31st 2008 when the exhibit will be delivered. The exhibit will be here thru February 27, 2008. The exhibit will be on the 4th floor gallery.
  • The garage sale earned a good bit of money- (1,300 IIRC).
  • Personal mail delivery is prohibited from the library address.
  • Janine is looking for help at the library booth/book walk at the Fiesta in Linn Park on the 20th. Contact Sandi to volunteer.
  • There will be a meeting of the Adult Programming committee after Coll. Dev. on Oct. 17th.
  • BPL at Nite is next Thursday night.

Staff Training Day

  • If you wanto go on the library vann- contact Linda W.
  • Remember that you can donate toys and nonperishable goods at staff day.
  • Staff Day committee members will be working on the 17th and after the program for setting up/cleaning up.

Other

  • You cannot combine 15 minute breaks unless you are working 12-8 on Mon. or Tue.
  • The NCCJ walkathon will be this Sunday at 2pm. If you wan tot volunteer to walk, contact Pam.
  • The dumpster will not be here for much longer.
  • The people from LEAD (library paraprofessional training) will be presenting Debbie D. will a special award next week. If you are a parap. and took the training course, please consider attending.
  • Gambling sites are being blocked and should not be unblocked.
  • BST- Karen is creating a small business resource page.

Department Heads Meeting, Sept. 22, 2007

Here are the highlights from the DH meeting:

  • Please tell patrons that rosetta Stone is changing. They will have less languages (5). ALso we might be getting a newer and better product. Stay tuned!
  • ECommerce is coming to Central and Hoover libraries. This will alllow patrons to pay fines and make donations using their credit card online.
  • Take a look at alabamamosaic.org- it has a collection of digital resources concerning Alabama.
  • The new administration assistant's name is Stephanie George.
  • Sandi will be the new "Adult Services Coordinator". She will help coordinate adult programing. If you are interested, contact Sandi.
  • If you attend Tec Tuesdays, that counts as training.
  • The Southern History Inventory is finished. Yeahhhh!!! There will be a party sometime in October.
  • When doing deposits (for copier, printouts, and other items), please send a copy to Sandi of the deposit slip.
  • Little Alla (Alabama Library Association) membership forms are due mid October- there is an early discount.
  • If you want to attend a JCPLA conference- then you need to join JCPLA
  • Overdrive Training- if you signed up for Overdrive Training, there will be held in a special place for these times:
  • Oct 3 @10am- in the boardroom
  • Oct 11 @2pm in the boardroom
  • Oct 17 @ 2pm in the boardroom
  • Oct 25 @?? will be in the Social science conference room

If you have a session not at these times you will go to the computer center- and will need headphones.

  • Sandi asks that we do an informal survey of our afterschool kids again.
